The Sky Is The Limit!
Curr 341- Reflection - 6/20/22
This class has taught me so much already. What I have always felt were flaws in our education system was a big part of the discussion today. Not only pointing out the flaws, but having a discussion on what we should be doing as educators to fix this problem. It is reassuring to know others feel the same way I do. Knowing other educators want to help students connect the dots in the real world the way I have always wanted to is so invigorating! It is nice to finally be on the same page with a group of individuals that want to make a difference in the world, one child at a time. I know it will be a great experience to work hand in hand with these same educators that use UDL in their classrooms, because they have come to the realization as I have that all students learn differently and nothing is one size fits all! It is such a relief to know that 21st Century learning is finally moving towards making changes in our flawed educational system. I love teaching! I love watching my students gain knowledge and enjoy learning. I am always trying new innovative ways to teach. I try to make my classroom and lessons more engaging. I have learned to apply real life scenarios in addition to embedding visuals, songs, videos, hands-on and virtual manipulatives and engaging anchor charts into the subject based standard learning I am mandated to teach everyday. I try to do whatever it takes to make learning fun and something they will remember. 21st Century educators have to convince our veteran teachers and administration that this is the way children should be learning. Show them how successful students can become if this new way of teaching is incorporated into every classroom. Everyday my class begins with Social Emotional Learning. I feel that understanding themselves and others is one of the most important things a child needs to learn. Having real life classroom discussions about real life personal issues and how to overcome these situations is vital for any individual young or old. Making that safe space in a classroom is equally important. It is so nice to know that 21st Century teaching agrees that learning should be fun and educating students should bring out the gifts each individual student brings to the classroom. "Think of how much better society will become if we can help mold these little minds on ALL life's educational skills. Remember they are our FUTURE!" - Laura KD |
